One night at rumors

It just happened.

There was no special event. Although it was a Saturday, the night started out quite tame. Laarni, Day, Frank and Tom were already tipsy coming from Mandarin after drinking to the just concluded election of officers of the National Union of Journalists in Philippines at the Baguio City Hall MPH when I, Malen and Pigeon joined them at the usual watering hole.

Laarni started it all from her seat. Day took the cue and Frank just started pumping.

Later we were joined by Willy Magtibay, Kawayan De Guia and company. Not to be outdone, Yvonne, Raymond (of table 1), Andrew, Andy and Inyong joined the ruckus.

Worth repeating, it is.

One and alone

"The earlier we realize that we are alone, the better off we all are."

So goes a line in one of the recent books I have read. It would seem like a very pessimistic view of life but come to think of it, it makes perfect sense, for me at least.

It does not mean that you go solo flight all of a sudden. Knowing how to deal with life's, yours specifically, challenges, trials and tribulations on your own would do you a lot of good. For the simple reason that our family and friends will not always be there to lend you a helping hand, a shoulder to cry on or just be a sounding board. They too have their own lives to live and be miserable about at times.

To push our capabilities to the limit and discover more about ourselves is but one mystery we have to solve during our time on terra.

And with this I leave with you another quote;

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine as children do. It's not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own lights shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others" It is by Marianne Williamson from A Return To Love: Reflections on the Principles of A Course in Miracles.

It was also used in the movie Coach Carter and it is often mistaken to have been coined by the great Nelson Mandela.

Shout out - Class of 1993 UBSHS

I received an SMS from Diego Bautista about a high school batch meeting at Ionic. So, I decided to join more for curiosity than helping out (hee-hee) with the alumni homecoming in December, 45th according to Des.

There were only four (4) of us who made it to the meeting which was transferred from Ionic to Rumors - Ann Marie, Des, Diego and I. Classmates who were not able to make it to the meeting sent their regrets and suggestions through sms.

Ironic that I felt we were just teens acting and dressed as adults. If not for the talk on kids, marriage and career while sipping toxic brews I'd have thought it was just one of our plays back then.

Anyway, here's a call for UBSHS Class of '93 - we are the host for this year's homecoming so please pitch in.

Impatience

when...?
there is only certain uncertainty
when...?
each movement of time is one tear in my heart
when...?
one grain of sand less, one breath out of hope
when...?
a day and a night feels like forever
when...?
tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow
when...?
i don't know

Shoes 1

let's exchange shoes
would mine fit yours?
would yours fit mine?
i love your shoes
i'd give you mine,
i'll get you another
if you don't like these
i can't promise something better
but you can choose
i'll even get you two
just give me yours
then i can live with my feet
